Two birdies 02:26
Two birdies (2-6-2020) intro: Dm Am Dm Dm Two birdies sing, one a song of spring Am A song of raging floods Of flowers cast aside by storms C Dm Of storms one pays in blood 2x Am C Dm The other sings of springtime past Am C Dm A song of what’s now gone Am C Dm Of grief for what might have been Am Dm If cruel summer hadn’t come 2x Outside my winter window Two birds in their own tongues As different as their feathered wings That take them when they’re done 2x To another tree further away I listen for their songs Fainter and more mournful yet I fear for what’s to come 2x Where birds once dwelt, our walls now rise Their love songs have gone quiet My ears no longer gain those sounds As winter fades to night 2x Two birdies sing, their songs of spring Are pressed upon my heart Of what is gone, what lingers on From this, I’ll never part 3x repeat 1st verse with last line 2x (or more)

Tempest in A Teapot (2/6/2020) C F There’s a tempest in the teapot, vapor erupting from the snout C G Hot waters sear what air is left, gasping to get out C F The pain’s intense, the shrieking, scalding steam is all one hears C G C A frog dropped in this teapot, might die of heat, might die of fear ch. F C A tempest in our teapot, another came on us today G Nobody’s come to pour it out, make tea instead of hate F C Another tempest in our teapot, our world shrunken to this state G C If we could lower the heat in our little teapot tempests might not rule our fates I’m no Prospero, possessed of wisdom, with what I’ve seen not, i’m not a sage Though I live amidst my I-land, Caliban’s in better shape I’ve only those I love, those I haven’t lost, those precious few Despite loving them as I still can, these tempests rise anew A tempest in a teapot, perhaps a trifle to those outside Inside this teapot, it’s all the world, tempests one might not survive Just evaporate and disappear, delivered unto hell Little hope that we’ll emerge a rich bouquet of taste and smell

Notes of Blue (2-6-2020) capo 5, key C intro G - 4 measures G On the furthest side of lonesome there’s a past one can’t undo (G7) C There’s caverns into memories, there’s ghosts that call of you, call of you G In the deepest notes of blue Once we tended gardens, we nurtured many blooms Then watched as winter pulled them back to earth, their beauty bore no fruit Just deepest notes of blue instrumental In the whistle of a passing train, going somewhere we once went Places I won’t see again, where my debt to you was spent, owed all to you In the deepest notes of blue There’s bustle on the road outside, people pass me by No longer do I travel now, no longer run and hide from what is true My deepest notes of blue instrumental Songs are wisps peering into mists in the echoes of my mind In times like these, they’re all that’s real, they haunt me deep inside, nothing new Deepest notes of blue As years have sank in the wake of loss, each turning adds more weight No wonder we come to some end, it’s hard to bear such fate as we once knew In my deepest notes of blue

Chronicle of A Time (capo 5) C Em F G Mostly elders who are dying, mostly poor who struggle trying Mostly workers stretched beyond their means Parents comfort children crying, some are lonely people pining For a hug when touch brings risks that we can’t see It’s those dancers with no partner, it’s those lovers with no other It’s those friends who worry friends might bring them death It’s those teachers with no answers, it’s those souls who suffer cancer Bereft of loved ones who can’t travel to their beds It’s those who work without protection for feckless leaders with no vision In a time that asks their help to make this right We’ll rise or fall on our shared purpose, though the selfish think themselves first As if deserving more somehow helps them survive It’s the worry, it’s the anguish, being careful, who should we banish? Is it those who dare to walk with someone near? Could be a threat, are you one also? deep in our hearts each of us must know We could carry harm to those whom we hold dear It’s not knowing what comes later, it’s someone’s mom on a ventilator In a sports arena meant for watching games It’s this sickening aberration scourging all our human nations As deaths and suffering pile up every day The fates of all our friends and neighbors, sisters, brothers, even strangers Are intertwined much closer than we’ve known before At the same time we’re more distant, even those of us resistant To believing what fate might bring to our door Isolation devastation, each unique our situation But with common hope to ward off this disease Though we know it’s an illusion, perhaps the ultimate intrusion Could somehow happen no matter what we’d rather think Yet beyond this desolation, so much goodness now awakens Countless people helping others selflessly Offering kind words to our neighbors, running errands as a favor Sharing what we have with those who may have need Someday we trust this will be over, most will live through and recover but will what remains be mostly joy or fear? Until it’s lived, we cannot know, how children of these times may grow As this chronicle of a time haunts future years

Til All The Grievin’s Done Once we gathered here to sing Now we’re gathered once again Til all the grievings done Bearing all that we have known We’ve been tested to the bone Til all the grievings done B part Seems we’ve never known such loss Death has borne us bitter cost Grief has sometimes brought us to our knees now we’ve come with our tears Some of us no longer here Til all the grievings done Light gleams in your misty eyes Sunshine dances in your smiles Til all the grievings done While there’s still more tears to come We can hold you til they’re gone Til all the grievings done Some lost loved ones, some lost friends Sometimes it felt there’d be no end Such times as these will haunt us all our lives Now we’re left here with our songs With the love that keeps us strong Til all the grievings done If I'm not here to sing this song Perhaps I’ve fallen now I’m gone Til all the grievings done May these songs bring you release In their wake may all know peace Til all the grievings done
